Family Rules and A Birthday Party

by Adrienne on February 28, 2011

I am SO excited to show off my new sign, that my very talented friend Ashley made.  I have been wanting a way to display some “family rules”, and talked Ashley into making a wooden sign for us.  I LOVE how it turned out!!

Saturday we had a very important birthday party to go to.

I snapped a picture of Emma right before we left, because I realized her outfit matched with the wrapping paper I used.

Best Friends!

Happy Birthday Elliott!

I can’t believe that tomorrow is the last day of February!  This year is flying by.  I am so excited for spring!

My Middle Child

by Adrienne on February 23, 2011

Last week was pretty rough.  We were sick, some of us twice!  We had a flu-ish virus and then later in the week, a stomach bug.  All that sickness going on didn’t leave much time for blogging, or anything else for that matter.  We are finally all back to feeling normal.  Praise God!  I’ve spent the past two days trying to catch up with laundry, grocery shopping, cleaning etc.  I’m just so thankful to have some energy again!

Anyway. . .

Last week, I planned to spend some time with just Emma.  I feel guilty (a lot) because I just don’t get to give Emma as much attention as I would like to.  I couldn’t wait to spend time with her and just get to dote on her some.  My Mom watched Ava, because Eric and Wesley weren’t feeling well that day.

She picked out her outfit, and insisted on carrying her purse, which was filled with an assortment of chapstick and lip gloss. You know, the essentials.

When I asked her what she wanted to do she told me she wanted to go to Target and get chapstick and play-doh, so off we went.  She was really excited! As you can see in the picture, Emma takes the “more is more” approach when it comes to wearing lip-gloss.

I needed to get her a pair of shoes to play in, because she has outgrown most of her shoes.  I wanted to let her pick them out, but she needed a little guidance. The first pair she picked out were sandals.  Then, she chose a pair of cowgirl boots.  Finally, I got her to pick something that she could actually play outside in. ( We avoided the isle with the Dora and Disney princess tennis shoes, because I knew there would be no turning back. Ha!)  This is what she ended up getting.

After our shopping trip we went to Froyoz.  This was the happiest she had been all day.  The girl loves her food.

She loved getting to pick her own toppings.

It was such a fun Mommy and Emma day, even though she was kind of in a MOOD.  I love how girly she is and I know that she will be a great shopping buddy as she gets older!

All You Need Is Love

Happy Valentine’s Day!

We had a great day today!  Eric and I celebrated Valentine’s Day yesterday, so today was all about the kids.  I had a few fun things planned, and since it was a school day we had to have a Valentine’s party. :)

Eric and I went out to dinner last night.

We took our tiniest Valentine with us. I had Ava all dressed up and ready for our date.  When we got to the restaurant she had pooped all over her pretty dress.  Great way to start off the date. HA!

This was my Valentine gift from Eric.

I heart it!

This morning I had some Valentine surprises for the kids set out.

We had blueberry and chocolate chip muffins for breakfast.

Emma reading a Valentine book after enjoying some muffins.  Bless her heart, she loves food like her Mommy. Ha ha!

Ava loved her new Valentine gift from Mommy and Daddy.

I asked all of our family members to name some of the things they loved and this is what we came up with.

It is almost impossible to get a good picture of all three kids these days!

This one cracks me up.

We did some Valentine word searches, anagrams, cross word puzzles etc.  I found a website that had free printable games and just went to town!

We read a few books that I found about love.  This one was really cute. It inspired us to do some artwork.

We had heart shaped sandwiches for lunch.

We made cupcakes for dessert.

Yummy!

I had to take a picture of this.

Eric said, “Honey, you forgot to put icing on one of the cupcakes”.  Nope, that would be the work of Emma.  She licked all the icing off and carefully put it back.  I guess she thought no one would notice! Too funny!

Don’t laugh.  Emma and I attempted to make chocolate covered strawberries using magic shell.  I didn’t realize I was running low on it though, so our strawberries look kind of sad.  They were really tasty though.

Our cards.

The flowers that Eric gave me.

Since Eric took me out for dinner last night, I cooked his favorite meal tonight. We had roast with potatoes and carrots (heavy on the potatoes).

I started noticing today that Wesley didn’t seem to be feeling well, and tonight he started running a fever. He’s been complaining that his head hurts and I’m really hoping and praying that it’s not the flu!

Emma played outside ALL day! Tonight when I put her in the bathtub I noticed that her cheeks were really red.  I thought that she had been into my makeup and fussed at her.  I felt so terrible when I realized she was sunburned! Poor thing.

I am so thankful for all of my Valentines!

I heard this verse today, and thought it was such a great one for today:

“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”  John 13:35

I hope you feel loved today.

Happy Birthday Sydney!

by Adrienne on February 12, 2011

We had a fun little trip over to Jamestown Tennessee today to Sydney’s birthday party.  Sydney is Eric’s cousin Joey’s little girl. I can’t believe she is 4!  She had a tea party birthday party.

Everything was decorated so cute!

All of the little girls got their hair and nails done.  Since Emma doesn’t have any hair (poor thing), she had her nails done.

So pretty.

Wesley was a good sport, with all the girly stuff going on.

Sydney got lots of neat gifts.

The girls playing in Sydney’s room.

Ava loved playing in Sofia’s ball pit.

We had a fun time!

Happy Birthday Sydney!

Our Day in Pictures

by Adrienne on February 10, 2011

Tuesday February 8, 2011

I’ve been wanting to do this for a long time, so this morning I grabbed my camera and started snapping away.  It was a lot more challenging than I thought it would be.  I tried to keep my camera with me at all times, but I kept finding myself thinking, “I should take a picture of that!”

I will say that every day at our house is different.  Some days we have on our pajamas all day and never leave the house, and other days we are gone the entire day.

I have not always been a morning person, but one of my New Year’s resolutions was to get up early just so I had a few minutes to drink my coffee and read my Bible, and maybe watch a little bit of the Today Show uninterrupted.

I can’t imagine my morning without these people.

I am also trying to read the Bible in a year for 2011.  I will admit that I’m a little behind on my reading though.

Emma and Ava both usually wake up around 8.  They both wake up so happy.  I love that.

Wesley is not a morning person. He was especially not happy about me sticking a camera in his face.

One thing that is pretty much always the same is breakfast.  The kids eat Cheerios every morning.  We go through two big boxes of Cheerios a week.  Sometimes Emma will mix things up and have a banana in hers.

Ava played in the living room while I cleaned up breakfast.

After Wesley is done with breakfast he knows to go upstairs and get started on school.  He writes in his journal and does his assigned reading.  Today he did this in his snuggie.

Emma played some Angry Birds.

We use A Beka curriculum.  We decided to use A Beka because that was what Wesley was familiar with.  I really love it.  I think we  may try something different on a couple of subjects for next year, but for the most part we will stick with A Beka.

I think.

When Wesley was done with his journal and reading he got dressed and then we went over Bible, Spelling, Handwriting, Phonics, and Language. Once we go over it, he does his seat work on his own.

Ava played in Wesley’s room while we did this.  She kept distracting us with her cuteness.

About the time that I took this picture I realized that we had a level 5 code brown situation. This one required a bath!

After we got all cleaned up.  We read a book.

And played with toys.

While Ava was happily playing with toys, I tore Emma away from her cartoons so I could give her a bath and get her dressed.

Believe it or not, after that she was ready for a snack.  I gave her a granola bar and some apple juice.

While downstairs I made a list of a few things I’d like to accomplish today.  Just basic stuff, phone calls, chores, errands etc.

I got Emma situated playing with her doll house so that Wesley and I could do History together. ( She has on different pants, because she had an accident.  Didn’t want to take a picture of that! )

Wesley told me that History was his 2nd favorite subject, his first being Science.

We don’t have a designated school room.  At the beginning of the school year we were doing most of our school at the dining room table, but lately we have been doing school in his room. I feel like it works a lot better.

After History, I got Ava down for her nap.

She usually goes down for a nap between 11 and 12.  While she was napping we stop for lunch.  Today we had grilled cheese.

We don’t usually have a picnic table in the middle of our living room.  We brought it inside for the Superbowl party, and the kids wanted me to keep it inside for a while.  They got to watch Phineas and Ferb while they were eating.

Ava still napping, I did a load of laundry and took a shower.

I don’t think I’ve ever taken a picture of our laundry room before.  So unexciting.

Wesley and I did Math together.  We usually do some review, go over the lesson and then Wesley does his worksheet.

When Wesley finished school, we headed out to the library.

Emma isn’t allowed to get books at the library, but I let her pick out a DVD.

We went over to a table and played “Memory” while Wesley looked at books.  We played until Emma found a match.

After we left the library, I was feeling brave and we headed to Target. Whew! Didn’t manage to take any pictures while I was there!

I found Emma a paint with water book.  She thought it was the best thing ever!

Wesley reading his shark book.

I had forgotten that Eric had somewhere to be that night. I had worked so hard at taking all these pictures that I didn’t want to start all over, but I was sad that he wasn’t going to be hanging out with us like he typically does.

After I fed Ava some pears.  We decided to pick up some Chick-fil-a for dinner and head over to Maa’s house ( Eric’s grandmother) to visit.

I was so thrilled when I asked for ketchup and they handed us some of these.

How genius is this?!

It’s the little things.

I always get the chicken strip salad with ranch dressing. Yum!

We hung out and watched  “Good Luck Charlie” on the Disney channel together.

Ava played with this weird tambourine toy that she loves.

Then we headed home to see Daddy.

We had a little drama about what nightgown to wear.

We brushed teeth.

Read some books.

And said our prayers.

And then I collapsed from exhaustion.

Kidding.

Emma’s bedtime is between 8 and 8:30 and Wesley has to be in his room ready for bed at 8:30, and he can read or watch TV until 9:00.

Ava doesn’t usually go to sleep until 9:30 or 10.  I’m hoping we can get her to start going to bed a little earlier, but since she sleeps through the night ( most of the time) I really can’t complain.

After the kids are in bed, I usually will tidy up the house a little, maybe put up some laundry  (or maybe not), and then Eric and I will hang out for a while. Usually we watch TV, or a Netflix movie. If I blog, this is when it happens.

There you have it. Our day.

The End.

I’m so thankful that I get to wake up tomorrow and do it all over again.

Superbowl Party!

by Adrienne on February 7, 2011

We had our care group Superbowl party last night.  It was a lot of fun, and a little crazy. ( In a good way.) We have a lot of kids in our care group which means there is never a dull moment. Ha!

I didn’t take very many pictures, and the ones I did are really random.

Here are most of the boys in our group.

It was Trenton’s birthday. We had ice cream sundaes to celebrate! Happy Birthday Trenton!

Emma is ALWAYS up for ice cream!

Sorry Kellen! Haha!

We had real food too!  I love me some tailgating food!

Some of the guys.

The kids playing with Thomas.

Do you think Ava’s bow is big enough?

I didn’t really watch any of the game and I didn’t get to see any of the commercials until today.  I think my favorite was the Darth Vador one.

Can’t wait til next year. ( I’ll take more pictures)

Cute cousins

We got together at my Mom’s on Tuesday for my sister Heather’s birthday.  We had fun visiting.  My Mom insisted that we take some pictures of the kids, because we forgot to take any pictures at Christmas. This is my favorite. A couple of outtakes. Olivia is crazy about her cousins. It’s so cute to [...]
